Intercom Fin vs Zendesk AI vs Freshdesk Freddy: What Each Charges Per Resolution in October 2026
Intercom Fin vs Zendesk AI pricing: Fin is $0.99 per outcome, Zendesk $1.50 to $2.00, Freshdesk Freddy $0.49 per session. Math as of 15 Oct 2026.
As of 15 October 2026, the three vendors bill AI customer support in three different units. Intercom's Fin charges $0.99 per outcome, Zendesk lists $1.50 per automated resolution on a committed pack and $2.00 pay-as-you-go, and Freshdesk's Freddy AI Agent charges $49 per 100 sessions, about $0.49 each.
The catch is that Freshdesk's unit is a session, not a solved problem. Whether Freddy is cheaper than Fin or Zendesk depends on how often the AI actually resolves the conversation, and the resolution rates in circulation are vendor-reported.

What counts as a billable resolution at each vendor?
The definitions matter more than the sticker price. Intercom and Zendesk both charge when the customer stops asking for help, and Freshdesk charges for the conversation window itself.
Intercom. Per Intercom's help center, a resolution is counted when, after Fin's last answer, the customer either confirms it helped (a confirmed resolution) or leaves without asking for more (an assumed resolution). Intercom says it charges only one outcome per conversation. If a customer later returns to the same conversation for more help, the charge is deducted. A reply to a greeting does not count, and neither does a clarifying question the customer never answers.
Intercom's outcomes also include procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routing at $0.99 each, and qualifications at $9.99. These apply mostly to sales use. A procedure handoff is billed when Fin completes a procedure you configured to end by passing the conversation to a human or workflow.
Zendesk. Zendesk's help center says automated resolutions were grouped into tiers on 18 May 2026. Assisted escalations (the AI helped, then a human finished) and contained resolutions (the AI finished but an LLM check could not confirm the fix) do not count against your allowance. Only verified resolutions, where an LLM confirms the request was satisfactorily resolved, do. A conversation ends after 72 hours for email, 2 hours by default for messaging (extendable to 72), and at hangup for voice.
Freshdesk. The Freshdesk help center defines a session as all interactions between an end user and an AI agent within a time window. For the email AI agent, that is 72 hours from the customer's first email. The chat AI agent, which is available only in Freshdesk Omni, uses a 24-hour window. The definition says nothing about whether the issue was solved.
What do you pay in seats on top of the AI usage?
All three charge per agent for the helpdesk, and Fin can be bought without seats.
| Entry plan | Mid plan | Top plan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom (Essential / Advanced / Expert) | $29 per seat/month | $85 | $132 |
| Zendesk Suite (Team / Professional) | $55 per agent/month paid yearly | $115 paid yearly | Sales-quoted (Enterprise + Copilot) |
| Freshdesk (Growth / Pro / Enterprise) | $19 per agent/month billed annually | $55 | $89 |
| Freshdesk Omni (Growth / Pro / Enterprise) | $29 billed annually | $79 | $119 |
Zendesk also sells a Support Team plan at $19 per agent/month paid yearly, and its AI agents are included in every Suite and Support plan. Intercom's page shows both annual and monthly billing options, so confirm which applies at checkout. Last checked: 15 October 2026.
What does 1,000 AI conversations a month actually cost?
At a 50% resolution rate, 1,000 AI-handled conversations cost about $495 on Fin, $750 to $1,000 on Zendesk and $490 on Freddy. This is illustrative arithmetic from the list prices above, not a test result. The 30%, 50% and 70% rates are assumptions, not measurements.
Simplifications: Intercom counts only resolutions at $0.99 (ignoring handoff outcomes), Zendesk figures ignore the per-agent included allowance, and Freddy figures ignore the one-time 500 free sessions.
| Resolution rate | Intercom Fin ($0.99) | Zendesk committed ($1.50) | Zendesk pay-as-you-go ($2.00) | Freshdesk Freddy ($0.49 per session) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30% (300 resolved) | $297 | $450 | $600 | $490 |
| 50% (500 resolved) | $495 | $750 | $1,000 | $490 |
| 70% (700 resolved) | $693 | $1,050 | $1,400 | $490 |
Freddy's effective cost per resolved conversation moves with the rate: $1.63 at 30%, $0.98 at 50% and $0.70 at 70%. Fin and Zendesk stay at their list price per resolution by design.
With seats added, a five-agent team at a 50% rate would pay roughly the following per month, using entry-plan list prices (Zendesk and Freshdesk are annual-billing prices; Intercom's page does not label which billing option its seat price reflects) and assuming all five seats are full seats:
| Setup | Seats | AI usage | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom Essential + Fin | 5 x $29 = $145 | $495 | $640 |
| Zendesk Suite Team (committed rate) | 5 x $55 = $275 | $750 | $1,025 |
| Freshdesk Growth + Freddy | 5 x $19 = $95 | $490 | $585 |
| Freshdesk Omni Growth + Freddy | 5 x $29 = $145 | $490 | $635 |
These totals exclude add-ons, phone and messaging channel fees, and the included allowances. Treat them as a way to compare structures, not as a quote.
When does Freddy's per-session price beat per-resolution pricing?
Freddy is cheaper per solved conversation only if its resolution rate clears a break-even point. Dividing $0.49 by each competitor's price gives roughly 49.5% against Fin's $0.99, 32.7% against Zendesk's $1.50 and 24.5% against Zendesk's $2.00.
That calculation assumes all three AI agents resolve the same share of conversations, which is unlikely. Resolution-rate claims in the market come from the vendors themselves. Zendesk's pricing page says its AI agents can resolve up to 80%+ of even complex issues (a company claim). Intercom's pricing page hosts a customer testimonial from Robin reporting a 50% resolution rate with Fin (also self-reported). Neither is a like-for-like test.
If your questions are repetitive and simple, a flat per-session fee is hard to beat. If your questions are messy and many end in a human handoff, per-resolution pricing protects you from paying for failures.
Can you use Fin on Zendesk or Freshdesk?
Yes. Fin's pricing page says Fin works with other helpdesks, naming Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Zendesk and others. The terms are $0.99 per outcome, no seats, unlimited teammates and no setup or platform fees, with a stated minimum of 50 outcomes per month.
Fin's page also says "minimum commitments apply," so exact contract terms go through Intercom sales. This route lets a team keep its existing helpdesk and compare Fin's results against the built-in agent before migrating.
Zendesk also sells a separate option, Zendesk + Forethought, aimed at teams that want AI agents on any stack. Its price is quoted through sales.
Which one should you choose?
Pick by the shape of your support queue, not by the headline price.
- Small team, mostly email, low volume: Freshdesk Growth has a $19 per agent/month seat price on annual billing (Zendesk's Support Team plan, which covers email and ticketing, has the same seat price) and 500 free sessions for new customers. You pay for sessions that end in a handoff, so watch your handoff rate.
- High volume, repetitive questions, want a bill tied to solved issues: Intercom Fin has the lowest per-resolution list price at $0.99, and its outcome definition is published in detail. Check how many of your billable resolutions are assumed rather than confirmed.
- Already on Zendesk: The AI agents come with every Suite and Support plan, so a trial costs little. At $1.50 to $2.00 per resolution it is the most expensive unit here, though the May 2026 tier system means contained and escalated conversations do not draw down your allowance.
- Locked into a helpdesk but want to test an alternative AI agent: Fin on your current helpdesk, subject to the minimum commitment.
What are the weak points of per-resolution pricing?
The main risk is that "resolved" is defined by the vendor. Intercom's help center says a customer who leaves without asking for more help counts as an assumed resolution, so a frustrated customer who closes the chat can still be billed. Intercom does reverse the charge if the customer returns to the same conversation.
Zendesk uses an LLM check to verify resolutions. That reduces billing for abandoned chats, but the check is a model's judgment of the conversation text, and Zendesk's tier article does not publish a dollar rate for each tier.
Analyst firm Futurum Group raised related concerns when Zendesk first announced the model. It noted that a flat fee may not suit complex tasks and that rules on charging per step versus per overall outcome need to be clear. Per-session pricing has the opposite weakness: Freshdesk bills the window whether or not the customer got an answer.
What's still unclear?
Several things cannot be settled from public pages.
- Zendesk's rate per tier. The tier article describes three tiers but lists no dollar amounts. The pricing page shows $1.50 committed and $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Zendesk does not say on those pages whether those rates apply only to verified resolutions.
- Freshdesk's free 500 sessions. The pricing page says the first 500 sessions are included on each plan. The help center calls them a one-time complimentary allotment for new customers. Existing accounts should check their own billing page.
- Intercom Copilot pricing. Intercom's pricing page lists Copilot at $29 per agent/month, while the Fin page lists $35 per user per month and says it is currently available for Salesforce.
- Zendesk's volume discounts. Futurum's 2025 coverage described pricing that declines with volume, but the current pricing page lists flat $1.50 and $2.00 figures.
- Real resolution rates. The resolution rates quoted for Fin, Zendesk AI agents and Freddy are vendor or customer-testimonial claims. The break-even math above is only as good as the rate you plug in.
- Voice and enterprise pricing. Intercom says Fin Voice is on a custom pricing plan handled by its sales team. Zendesk's Enterprise plan is also sales-quoted. This post does not price them.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Intercom Fin cost per resolution?
As of 15 October 2026, Intercom lists Fin at $0.99 per outcome, billed once per conversation. A resolution is counted when the customer confirms the answer helped or leaves without asking for more help. Intercom helpdesk seats are separate, at $29, $85 or $132 per seat per month depending on the plan. Fin on another helpdesk has a stated minimum of 50 outcomes per month.
How much does Zendesk charge per automated resolution?
Zendesk's pricing page, as of 15 October 2026, lists $1.50 per automated resolution on a committed pack and $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Each plan includes a small allowance: 5 resolutions per agent per month on Support Team and Suite Team, and 10 on Suite Professional. Since 18 May 2026, only LLM-verified resolutions count against the allowance.
Does Freshdesk charge per resolution for Freddy AI?
No. Freshdesk bills Freddy AI Agent per session, at $49 per 100 sessions (about $0.49 each) as of 15 October 2026. A session covers all interactions with one end user within 72 hours for email or 24 hours for chat. The Freshdesk help center's definition does not tie a session to the issue being solved. New customers get 500 sessions free once.
Which AI support agent is cheapest?
It depends on resolution rate. At list prices, Fin's $0.99 per resolution is the lowest per-resolution rate of the three. Freddy's $0.49 per session beats Fin only if it resolves more than about 49.5% of sessions, and beats Zendesk's $1.50 above about 32.7%. These break-even points are arithmetic from list prices, assuming equal resolution rates across products.
Can I use Intercom Fin without switching helpdesks?
Yes. Fin's pricing page says it works with other helpdesks, naming Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Zendesk and others. It lists $0.99 per outcome, no seat charges and no setup fees, with a 50 outcomes per month minimum and a note that minimum commitments apply. Contract terms are handled by Intercom sales.
What is the risk of paying per resolution?
The vendor defines what counts as resolved. Intercom bills assumed resolutions when a customer leaves without asking for more help, though it reverses the charge if the customer returns to that conversation. Zendesk uses an LLM check to verify resolutions. Set usage limits and audit a sample of billed conversations against your own view of what was actually solved.
